It’s Thursday and that means it’s time for another Listacle!
(Holds for applause)
So, here’s 5 ways to improve your health starting today:
Like today today?
5. Ditch the Junk Food Habit
I promise I know how difficult this is but we both know that processed, nutrient empty junk food, while tasty, is absolutely killing us. Slowly replace it with other treats like fruits, veggies, nuts, hard boiled eggs, peanut butter, dark chocolate, and cheese.
But I can’t live without it…
– … Yes you can, Brenda.
That crap was created to addict us, it’s true, but are we mice or are we (wo)men?
4. Get Enough Rest
… … … zzz’s are a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, most Americans don’t get enough sleep which leads to a whole host of problems. Just remember, that hour of sleep you lost is an hour of sleep you’ll never get back. Aim for 6-8 hours of sleep a night or sleep until you feel rested. Too much sleep can sometime be as bad as not enough.
3. Drink More Water
Water is life…not Coke. I know it’s delicious in all it’s soda pop goodness but no. One Coke is as bad for you as 5 Little Debbie Swiss Rolls. The human adult body is 50-70% water. Don’t stress your body out by making it process all those crap additives just to get the water it needs.
And diet soda…well, …if you must but know there are studies out there say diet sodas could be as bad or worse for you than regular sodas. Aspartame is not your friend.
2. Start A Home Workout Routine.
I realize that starting any “workout routine ” can be a big commitment (and challenge) for anyone. The fact of the matter is that strength training will be a critical component of your health journey. If you’re gymtimidated or if gym fees or a personal trainer just aren’t in your budget you can workout at home using your own body weight, dumbbells from your local thrift store or items found from all over your house. Plus! It’s been proven that exercise staves off degenerative and cognitive decline so just get started! Take it slow and work into it. YouTube has some awesome homework’s videos. And if “working out” just isn’t your thing. Try Hatha Yoga. It’s incredible exercise.
1. Practice Gratitude
It’s so easy to become the victim of our own lives when we overlook how beautiful life truly can be. In our instant gratification society we’ve become used to wanting and needing more. We always want more…and when we get it, it’s not enough – we still want more. So, take a moment everyday to be present in and grateful for your blessings. You’ll find your mood improves, and because your mood improves your day will improve and because your day improves, your life will improve.
Om, Baby! Om.
